Welcome!

On September 30, 2007, after much planning and help from our friends & family, we tied the knot in Traverse City, Michigan! (Fig. 1) So now we'll use this blog (set up for wedding planning) to chronicle our continuing adventures in Berkeley and beyond.

California Pre-Wedding Extravaganza

What fun to join you guys in Paso Robles this past weekend. It was fun to hear about wedding plans, hang out and meet so many of your west coast pals. Hope to see you in September!

Holy cow- who ever expected the great experience at Stillwater. Looking forward to that wine shipment in October!
And who can forget the toad. He was so cute!
Hi Everyone,

I am really looking forward to Dave and Julie's wedding and having a wonderful weekend visiting with old and new friends! Looking for embarrassing photos...

All the best,
Lauren.

oops, I forgot the "embarrassing" pictures

I didn't have a digital camera when Julie and I lived together and Dave was our upstairs neighbor (2001-2002). I'll do my best to dig those up before the wedding...

Here's some from our graduation (June 2006) and the Fry-Larsen historic 7-Course Beef Outing (and fried fish that was eye=ing Dan).

Two months!

We are so excited as the RSVPs come in how many of our favorite people will be able to come to Traverse City for our wedding! We're very excited to see all of you!

And here is a photo of Dave & I instructing you to please blog your travel plans once you've made them, so we can be more specifically excited (actually I don't recall what we were really "instructing" on in this photo - perhaps one of the other participants in the recent "not as bad as I thought it would be" drinks evening can remind us?)

Roomies?

Hi!
I think I've worked out who I'm staying with after the wedding... but is anyone else looking for people to share hotel rooms with? If so, I hope this blog might help you find one another!

Promised photographs...

Right, so here are a few pictures that were taken when Julie and I last caught up ... which was in August 2003. Gee, long time now! Can't wait! I was on my way to NZ to start work and it seemed like a great opportunity to drop in, as it hardly matters which way around you fly. But you can take more luggage and spend an awesome time with one of your bestest friends!

So, I don't know if they are funny or truly embarrassing; fact is that I only have the ones where we both look like goddesses ... but I have a faint memory of one of us sitting in a cauldron, I got to dig that one out sometimes. Maybe...

One of the adventures during my stay was flying to Santa Barbara for lunch (jet-setting us!) with Fred and Ryan (?), and I positively enjoyed myself once we were far off the ground.
I am sorry for all those OhMyGods, but couldn't help it. It's not your flying, love, it's me!

The cute Julie picture was taken on a beach near Zuma - I don't even know if that's north or south of the main blob that's called LA - ignorance! The focus of the evening was watching the sunset and staring into at least the right direction towards my future home.

So, we watched the sun go down and waited for the main attraction of the area to open: Zuma Beach Sushi! I had first been here in 2000 and dwelled on nothing but fantastic memories of this place, so Julie made it an item on our T0-Do list and made it happen!

Mmh, food. You shall never see me any happier! If I remember correctly, this is abalone with a somewhat special sauce. Also on the menu that night were fried shrimp heads, me thinks ...

So, here is a photo from earlier on the same day of our beach mission. Finally found someone to take a photo of the two of us!

And here is the (maybe famously) dubbed photo ... Thinking World Formula. Beer certainly helps!

I can't remember the name of the bar, but maybe someone can enlighten me?

Funnily enough, I did came across the in a novel the other day - the main character was drinking there, too - but it has since escaped again.

We had a 'public transport only' day that day and met up with my old boss near Melrose who could absolutely NOT believe we didn't have a car anywhere... remember that, Julie? Well, that's at least the reason for the Metro Rail plan in the photo!

Student Universe info

Jules wanted me to pass along this info because it works for ANYONE with a .edu e-mail address. Studentuniverse often has awesome deals on flights (also rail/hostels abroad). You sign up, they search for you on the campus directory (They'll notify you by e-mail if they can't confirm your "student" status. When I moved to MIT, I had to call in and get them to look again, but it was no big deal).

www.studentuniverse.com

fyi BOS to TVC (1 stop) $355 Sat-Mon, $245 Sat-Tue., you get the idea

When I know more about actual plans--Matt's band the MotionSick has their music video release on Friday, the 28 and we may drive as well--I'll post to try to coordinate. You can check out the skateboarding polar bear I filmed at the shoot. It's totally reasonable that with global warming they've needed to find alternate modes of transportation.

Sooooo looking forward to catching up with everyone and meeting all of Julie and Dave's other friends and family.

Hugs,
Cat

Hello, it's Ina here!

Hooray! I love the blog, this will be so much fun :) Thanks for the credit, but as with all most ideas - I just stole it!

As for travel: I am flying from Dunedin via Auckland directly to San Francisco on Saturday, September 15, arrival is 12:25pm. It'll be a good trip, very few plane changes keep me happy.
Then a week with Julie & Dave, am arriving in Detroit on the same plane as them.

After what will absolutely definitely be a fantastic, outrageous, enthralling celebration, I am then flying from Detroit back to SF to connect to a flight to Auckland and Dunedin on Wednesday, October 3. I am SO excited!

Right, more work to do here ... but it's a lovely day here in Dunedin (still just the middle of winter), but if the coastal climate teaches you one thing, it is: Don't delay in enjoying the good weather, it will not stick around!

Dunedin, for those who don't know but somewhat care is the second biggest dwelling on the South Island of New Zealand. We call it the Mainland (because the mass is larger than the North Island, but then we also call people from Auckland Jafas - "just another funny Aucklander")... Julie was here to visit in 2005, but I hadn't quite made it back here yet between the transition of an intern to a PhD student. It's a pretty little spot, small town that is completely dominated by University students and staff, there are many outdoor activities nearby, lots of tramping (=hiking), vivid wildlife with the possibility to see seals, albatross, and yellow-eyes penguins just minutes away from town.
What I am trying to say is - come visit sometime!!

Photographs of Julie and me are about to follow ... what a great way to procrastinate the afternoon away ...

Dave & Julie's travel dates, etc.

We fly to Detroit on Friday, Sept. 21, landing 11:47 pm, and will be driving up to Traverse City soon thereafter.

We'll leave by (new!) car around Oct. 3 and drive back to San Francisco.

We'll be staying with our families, except Sept 29 & 30 we'll stay either at the Bayshore or Holiday Inn, or a hotel very nearby.
