After the wedding, we loaded up our new Volkswagen R32 and drove cross-country, via the Michigan upper peninsula, Wisconsin, Minnesota, North Dakota, then into Canada to Winnipeg and across the Trans-Canada Highway via the Rockies to Kamloops, then down into Washington, Oregon, and back to Cali. It was a beautiful fall color tour, and we especially enjoyed Banff to Jasper, and a day off of driving to hike around Jasper National Park. Some photos of our adventure are posted
here.

Since then, life has been completely crazy. We have been trying frantically to catch up on work since our wedding-related time off & distraction. Interspersed between work binges we attended our friends Christine and Robert's fabulous LA wedding on Oct. 13 and spent a lovely weekend with Wendy & Garrett; sold our Chevrolet Lola (to Dave Worton, so she's still in the family); Julie spent Oct. 22-24 in Washington DC talking climate change and renewable energy to policy people (and getting optimistic about how much climate solutions work is going on there these days!); we attended our heroic fire-escaping friends Erich and Kim's wedding in San Diego on Oct. 26; housesat a weekend for our friend Shuster to take care of his very happy dog Hannah; Dave finished a demo of his song written with Jay, "Strange Man," and posted it to their
MySpace band page on Nov. 12; Julie headed back to DC to review science Nov. 12-14; and we've been trying to spend lots of time with our lovely friend Colette, who will be leaving for Colorado at the end of the year. Activities have included watching Dr. Zhivago and planning a trip to Russia, a Sharks hockey & hot tub night, and martinis & 007
after watching Clive Owen thwart the Spanish Armada at the Emeryville AMC. (photo at left above is at the end of that epic evening)
Life is good, but full! Now it's time for a productive 10 days of work, and then I'm off again to Germany for a science meeting on Nov. 26 ... phew! Happy Thanksgiving!
